In April 2003 the All Ireland Spiritual Guidance Association was established by a cohort of thirty-eight seasoned spiritual directors, recognizing a perceived need for an organization that could advocate for their interests and offer support in their vocation. The decision was made to encompass various traditions of spiritual guidance, maintain an ecumenical membership, and extend its influence across the entirety of Ireland.
To facilitate this initiative, four committees were formed: Ethics, Credentialing and Accreditation, Events Planning, and Registration. Patronage was received from Milltown Institute, All Hallows, CORI, and the University of Wales, Lampeter. Over the years AISGA has engaged in diverse activities, including the coordination of conferences, workshops and training programs aimed at nurturing and advancing the practice of spiritual guidance.
Renowned international speakers have been invited to share their expertise and insights. A list of speakers and events can be found here. At the core of the Association’s principles is the Code of Ethics, which articulates both aspirational goals and guidelines for professional conduct and best practices. This code serves as a safeguard to uphold the integrity of the ministry.
